Why Earn Certification in Middle School Education with Your Master’s Degree at Adelphi in New York?

Adelphi University offers a comprehensive master’s degree program in childhood and adolescent education, featuring an opportunity for specialized advanced certification in middle school education. This additional, 6-credit certificate enhances the degree program by enabling graduates of childhood education (certified in grades one through six) to skillfully instruct in a distinct discipline within the seventh- to ninth-grade levels, provided they have earned adequate content credits. Furthermore, those who have completed adolescent education (certified in grades seven through 12) can broaden their teaching expertise to encompass fifth- and sixth-grade levels within their respective content areas.

A certificate in middle school education allows childhood and secondary education graduates to extend their areas and marketability. You’ll examine the many dimensions of the young adolescent experience, including gender and sexuality, intellectual, emotional and ethical growth, and political and social development while gaining a deeper understanding of the instructional needs of the students within the middle school environment.

Adelphi University’s childhood and adolescent education master’s degree program includes an option for certification in middle school education. Adding the certificate to the degree program allows a childhood education graduate (certified in grades one through six) to pursue teaching-specific subject areas at seventh- to ninth-grade levels with sufficient credits. Graduates in adolescent education can pursue instructing specialized content areas between fifth and 12th grades.
